About Me

Liz Rice Toronto

Environmentalist

The vision for this site is to have a place where Toronto eco/ environmental/ vegan/ vegetarian/ veggie events are aggregated so that people can easily find these events and to participate with like-minded people.

The most important thing that describes me, is that I’m a long time environmentalist. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle define my way of life. I can’t be wasteful. If something leaves my home, it must be taken care of responsibly – compost, charity donation, pass along to someone I know that can use it, etc.

Another component of my environmentalism is my “vegan-ish” lifestyle (I’m not 100%, but I’m damn close). Like my environmental principles, ‘vegan’ is something that I do my best to live every day via my purchasing choices. For example, since I shop for ‘beauty’ products almost exclusively at health food stores (and USANA); I’m assured not to be using products that were tested on animals or contain animal products.

How did I come to “vegan-ism”? – inspired by a vegan friend, I attended a vegan potluck in the Spring of 2007. I was amazed at the taste and variety of the food. The same week I learned what really happens in factory farming – it was easy to go 95% vegan in 1 week – where I’ve been ever since!

Toronto Woman

I’m truly a city person at heart and in spirit. I live in downtown Toronto (the heart of the city) and I LOVE it! As a teen I was raised on an organic farm, I hated the restrictions that came with using a car, namely weather conditions. I love the freedom of being a TTC rider and love being amongst people.

What do I love most about Toronto?

I love its energy; that no matter the time of day, someone is walking their dog, coming home, going to work, etc. I love the regulated chaos of commuting on public transportation. I love how people of very different cultures and income levels get along. I love seeing tall buildings in the skyline and the lights. I love NOW Magazine (my Thursday destination).

ABOUT THIS SITE

I post things that I believe in, that I’m a consumer of, or events that I enjoy. It’s that simple. I believe in welcoming events, because that’s what will inspire people to see that “vegan” isn’t weird or difficult . . . and living in the largest city in Canada, it’s a shame not to enjoy what Toronto has to offer. Since I am aggregating events and information, please email me with any events that I can post. I go to multiple sources, but it’s easy to miss events. I usually make an update every second day. This is a lot of work, so please check back often to get the best information and sign-up to be notified when changes are made so that you don’t miss anything!!! I value my reputation. I always try to note if I’ll be at an event, so that you know that I’m for real and actually live this Enviro-Veg (E-V) life. I recommend only places that I’ve used, or gone to personally. And of course some of the service providers/businesses have become my friends/acquaintances. If you have concerns, questions, or complaints about any service or event that I’ve posted or recommended, please feel free to contact me by email and we’ll go from there.

I was inspired by people in the E-V community to start this site, but it is people outside of the community that really do all the work to keep me motivated, help me stay healthy, and provide answers and solutions to all my technical challenges.

The E-V lifestyle is fun and not as difficult as it seems. And vegan food is delicious! So if you’re not currently living this lifestyle, be assured that you are welcomed at all of these events and that we’re really nice, normal, friendly people, that are more interesting than your ‘Average Joe’s’.
